With the help of my sister, Nancy, my son, Talakai, my husband, Carl, and some friends I am finally beginning to sift through the debris that was once my studio. I have been doing what little art that I have done in my living room. And it is now time to move through this.

We have removed the burn debris from the room where the fire started. So… new insulation, new electrical, new dry wall, new light fixtures, new window frames, new windows, a new potters wheel, and new kiln, freshly painted walls, freshly painted cabinets. The ceiling is blue; the wall that leads upstairs is yellow. The rest of the walls are white for now, but I promise they will be artsy fartsy soon.

Last Sat, Talakai and I went to the New Earth Galley in Fairbury, NE and worked with Bill. He taught us the basics of throwing on a potters wheel. So here is my first face jug.

I am concerned that we through this jug on Sat and I did not cover it. Then on Sun evening I sculpted this face. There are small cracks on the edges where I added the clay for the face. And a few in the eye area. Yeah, I know, with all the lines and wrinkles, it might hard to see them. However, I recently decided to sculpt a horse. I can tell you this... never... never try to sculpt in paper clay without an armature. I started sculpting the horse head, then the neck. I was just getting the feel of how doing a horse might be. So I wadded up some aluminum foil and sculpted the body. Now I have been sculpting for about 4 or 5 years now and I know better. I started sculpting the legs. Well I now have a horse with broken off legs. I think I am going to cover the whole thing with strip paper mache. That should strengthen them. Of course the whole horse will be more bulky. It is hardly refined yet. I have reattached two of the legs and that is drying.I think I will finish her as she is before I attempt to reconnect the other two legs. I may just have to keep this one, because of not first doing an armature. I just go so carried away with the sculpting. Never again.I had thought of drilling into the legs and the body and inserting a wire armature. But I was worried that the gap between the wire and the paper clay, however slight, might just cause another new problem. So if I drill the legs and insert wooden skewers coated with pva glue, that would eliminated the problem of internal movement. I have talked to several folks about this and they seem to think the horse will survive.
Luckyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07142505145054701733noreply@blogger.com39tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8292579005480032022.post-85484008054105426342007-12-11T14:03:00.000-06:002007-12-11T14:17:06.521-06:00Karlie
Karlie examplifies the joy and lively nature of this series of sculpts. So here is a picture of a baby that I just completed. I call her Baby Maryanne. She is Super Sculpy with a fiber filled body. She is about 10 inches long. I had a lot of trouble with moonies as it has been wet and damp all week. So I did a light wash of color to cover up the little white spots.

Luckyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07142505145054701733noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8292579005480032022.post-72320073731873230922006-12-20T23:30:00.000-06:002007-12-11T15:05:08.428-06:00I began my art career in 1973 out of necessity when my husband died. I began painting motorcycle tank and helmets in order to provide for my two-year-old son and me while I attended Blair Business College in Colorado Springs, CO.

In 1975, I moved to Louisville, KY to pursue my love of horses and art. I began to carve picture, portraits and logos in leather items that I make. These were such things as notebooks, briefcases, and portfolios. I also painted signage.

I exhibited in show in OH, KY, NC, FL, OK, AZ, TX, TN, NM, IN as well as Toronto, Ontario. I mostly did horse shows and some rodeos. While at the Arabian Horse Canadian Nationals I was commissioned to do the awards for the stall decorating awards.

In 1983, I established and managed Bluegrass Equine Center. We trained and showed Arabian Horses. As a part of that operation, I offered camp for children who love horses and art. Several of the camps were for the financially handicapped children who could not have other wise attended theses camps. I taught them to ride and care for horses. I also taught them to create hand painted tee shirts, carve leather and to paint plaques. I also taught them how to market these items in order to pay for the camp cost.

In 1993, I married a Nebraska man. We moved to Nebraska. In 2003, I began sculpting in clay. I have exhibited at the Expo in Washington DC and at the Kansas City Doll Fair, and at Dragon Con 2006.

I teach several classes each year both in my studio and at other locations. I also do presentations on Artdolls and figurative sculpting for local clubs and organizations. Please contact me if I can be of any assistance to you.Luckyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07142505145054701733noreply@blogger.com3
